Diego still remembers the moment when one of his students learned a song and played it as a birthday surprise for his mom. Moments like these explain why he’s been hooked on teaching for 22 years — watching each student work toward their personal goals and actually reach them. Over two decades of teaching, he’s figured out the main thing: it’s not about making everyone the same, but finding each person’s own path.
Diego has a background in pedagogy, but what’s really valuable is his experience working with completely different types of people. He works with kids from age 10 up to adults, from total beginners to advanced guitarists. And for each one, he creates an individual plan based on their goals and musical taste.
Right from the first lesson, Diego assesses the student’s level, figures out the right lesson length (30, 45, or 60 minutes), and builds a strategy. After just a few sessions, students are playing open chords and simple melodies. A month in, and they can switch between chords. Six months later, they’re playing entire simple songs with chords.
Diego specializes in the technical stuff: acoustic and electric guitar, solos, improvisation, music theory. He’s got the advanced techniques down — alternate, sweep and economy picking, tapping, and two-handed playing. But mostly he works on cover songs that students actually want to learn, because that’s what keeps it interesting.
“Fun and discipline.”
His approach is technical and structured — for people who really want to master their instrument. No shortcuts, but no forcing either. The main qualities he values in himself as a teacher are patience, years of experience, and individual approach to each student. After all, music should bring joy, but there’s no getting around the work you need to put in.
